Police deployed tear gas at a Yellow Vest protest in Toulouse on Saturday, as protests around the country kicked off for the first time since the fire at Notre Dame cathedral.

One protester could be seen yelling at police, another climbed atop a statue of Joan of Arc and placed a cut-out of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's face and a yellow vest on the monument, in a seemingly symbolic act.

This weekend was the 23rd demonstration by the Yellow Vest movement, which stands in opposition to economic inequality and French President Emmanuel Macron.
