French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as Alibaba Executive Chairman Jack Ma and Olympic gold medallist former sprinter Usain Bolt attended the opening day of the fourth edition of Viva Technology on Thursday in Paris, taking part in three separate panels at the event.
The president took the opportunity to be a cheerleader for Europe, saying, "Could you imagine without European Union having a start-up, set up in Vilnius with a Dutch CEO speaking in France about something to improve? I mean, we did it."
"I think on currency, on digital, on climate action we need more Europe," he added.
Jack Ma took an optimistic but nuanced view on artificial intelligence.
"The difference between artificial intelligence, AI, and people is that machines never have dreams. We have dreams. If you don't have dreams, you'll never win with machines in the future," he said.
Jamaican Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt presented his e-scooter company, Bolt Mobility, as a way to reduce the number of cars on the road, while also unveiling the world's smallest electric car.
Viva Technology, an annual technology conference dedicated to innovation and start-ups, will take place from May 16 to 18 in Paris.
