France has passed a controversial tax bill targeting tech giants, the first of its type from one of the world's major economies.

The three percent tax affects companies with global revenue of $800m, including $30m in France, such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon.

The French move has angered the White House.

US President Donald Trump has ordered an investigation into the planned tax - an examination that could result in retaliatory tariffs.

Al Jazeera's Natacha Butler reports from Paris.
