A powerful explosion rocked central Paris on Saturday morning, leaving at least 20 people injured, police say.

According to initial reports, the blast was triggered by a gas leak and went off in a bakery on the Rue de Trevise in the 9th Arrondissement.

Firefighters were scrambled to the scene to tackle the blaze and assist the injured, while police cordoned off the area.

The blast took place amid heavy security in Paris, as the French capital braces for a new round of Yellow Vest protests.
