French President Emmanuel Macron presided over a ceremony where France, Germany, and Spain agreed to co-develop a new European fighter jet and air combat system, at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget Airport, just northeast of Paris, on Monday.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen and French Defense Minister Florence Parly signed and exchanged the agreement after they unveiled a mockup of the French-German-Spanish New Generation Fighter (NGF).

Developed under 'The Future Combat Air System (FCAS)' scheme, the European cooperation aims to bolster EU defence capabilities in a bid to decrease the continent's dependency on the US.
