A review of clinical trials suggests that exercise helps older adults maintain cognitive performance.

Researchers at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center analyzed about 100 studies to determine the optimal exercise for older adults.

Their results found that aerobic exercises that include walking, running, cycling can improve cognitive performance for healthy adults at an advanced age, even those with mild impairment and dementia.

The study determined that exercises like yoga and tai chi also help the elder maintain their cognition.
