According to Reuters, the accused Mexican drug cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was so focused on spying on his associates, he had spyware installed on their phones to monitor their texts and conversations. A key prosecution witness testified under special security precautions in court on Wednesday, saying he installed the software for the drug kingpin. He testified that he handled Guzman’s requests to install the spyware on about 50 “special phones”. The software allowed Guzman to monitor users’ calls and texts, and to record at any time without the user’s knowledge.
