Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with the head of the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Khalifa Haftar in Cairo, as footage released by Egyptian State TV on Sunday shows.
Sisi and Haftar were also joined by the head of the General Intelligence Directorate (GID) Abbas Kamel.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of an escalation in fighting around Tripoli, with the LNA attempting to establish control over the capital city.
Over 10,000 Tripoli residents have so far been displaced due to the ongoing clashes, according to Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
The LNA, which controls eastern Libya, is aiming to take over territory from the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), including Tripoli. The country has been split between the two rival sides since 2014.
