Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and Italy were among member states of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum that signed the forum's charter in Cairo on Thursday.

"Today, the seven founding countries of this forum that is Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Jordan, Palestine and Italy," said Egypt's Minister of Petroleum Tarek al-Mala."

"We consider the forum to become… an example that can be followed of how countries in an otherwise turbulent region can come together to create synergies," added Georgios Lakkotrypis, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry at Government of Cyprus.
