Cairo airport was seen nearly empty as Egypt announced this week that all flights would be suspended from Thursday until the end of the month in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Footage filmed on Thursday also shows some people waiting outside the airport for their relatives to arrive.

Authorities in Egypt imposed the closure of restaurants, cafes, night clubs and public places nationwide from 7pm until 6am local time, starting from Thursday until the 31st of March, as well as the sanitization of hotels and tourist attractions.

Over a month after the first case of coronavirus in the country, the total of infected increased to 256, with seven fatalities.
