Effigy of Duterte torched by protesters in Manila

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the House of Representatives in Manila where Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte was to deliver his state of the nation address. Protesters set fire to a giant effigy of Duterte represented as a mythical sea creature, brandishing a gun in one hand and a Chinese flag in the other. Duterte was expected to defend his deadly anti-drug campaign and his non-confrontational approach to China in territorial disputes when he addressed a joint session of the Philippine Congress.
