Its been a year since rebels in the southern Syrian province of Deraa surrendered.

The security situation is worsening in the southern province which was the birthplace of the uprising against

President Bashar al-Assad in 2011.

Both the government and former rebel soldiers have been killed and who is responsible is not clear, with some locals believing that Syrian government allies Russia and Iran are fighting for influence and control.

UN and human rights groups have also documented cases of arbitrary detentions and arrest.

Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut.
