The Dakar motor racing rally is under way in Peru.

The race originally went from the French capital Paris to Senegal's capital Dakar but was moved 10 years ago because of security concerns on the original route.

Now organisers are warning that the new route could be one of the hardest for competitors, both physically and mentally.

Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez reports from Peru's capital Lima.
