Former Cuban President and First Secretary of Cuba's Communist Party Raul Castro met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for discussions in Havana on Wednesday.

After the bilateral meeting, Castro and Lavrov took part in the opening ceremony of the renovated Statue of the Republic in Havana’s National Capitol Building, as team of Russian experts took part in restoration process.

Earlier on Wednesday Lavrov met with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla to discuss bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as issues on the regional and global agenda.

The Russian diplomat will continue his Latin America tour by attending BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brazil between July 25-26.
