Queues of cars caused gridlock at the border between Croatia and Slovenia at the Bregana crossing on Friday. The traffic occurred after border control measures for people both entering and exiting the Schengen area were increased.

While both Croatia and Slovenia are a part of the EU, only Slovenia is in Schengen. Croatia on the other hand, is a candidate country which has not yet joined the agreement.

Croatia and Slovenia have both said they are committed to implementing the new rules.
