The debate on whether or not people should wear homemade face masks, even when they appear healthy, has been in a constant tug of war during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 6th, Canada’s top doctor recommended that people who don’t have symptoms of COVID-19 wear non-medical masks when outside their home as “an additional measure” to protect other people.

This comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US advised all Americans to cover their face with a cloth mask or a scarf when they leave home to prevent mask wearers from spreading their own droplets.

While the mask debate continues to play out, there’s consensus that physical distancing and washing your hands are the most important elements in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
