Cars drive up to a Catholic priest who is providing drive-through confessions in a parking lot in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Monday, April 6.

Church services were suspended in Massachusetts to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cars pull up next to an orange safety cone in front of the seated priests, who keep a distance of six feet from those wishing to confess their sins.

Rev. Brian E. Mahoney and colleagues for the past three weeks have been hearing confessions in the parking lot every Monday.

Worldwide, more than 1.3 million people have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus, and more than 75,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The true numbers are almost certainly much higher, because of limited testing, different rules for counting the dead, and deliberate underreporting by some governments. (AP)
