Ambassadors designated by Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido met at a hotel in Bogota on Saturday to discuss how to win the support of China and Russia, allies of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

"Russia and China can play a fundamental role in being part of the solution of the Venezuelan crisis," said Julio Borges, the former head of Venezuela's National Assembly living in Colombia.

Borges, who is now an adviser to Guaido and his ambassador to the Lima Group regional bloc, said his goal was now to dissuade the two countries from backing Maduro.

The meeting was also attended by Colombian Vice President Marta Lucia Ramirez and Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, who continue to provide political support to the opposition inside Venezuela.
