Schools were reportedly closed and public transport was suspended as violent protests continued across the southern Indian state of Kerala on Thursday, as two women made history by entering an ancient Hindu temple.

Groups of angry Hindu traditionalists were seen clashing with police and hurling smoke bombs at officers. According to reports, around 745 people were arrested since the beginning of the unrest. One person was killed in clashes.
