Chinese ambassador to Canada Lu Shaye threatened Canada could face repercussions if the country chooses to ban Huawei from its new 5G network for security reasons.

He made the comments Thursday, while also discussing the detainment of two Canadian nationals, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.

Lu said the two had been detained on allegations of "engaging in activities that endanger the national security," while defending Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou over her arrest in Canada, saying she had not broken any Canadian laws.
