Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang called for "non-interference" in Venezuela's internal affairs, when speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Friday.

Commenting on the situation in Venezuela, Geng said that "we urge other countries to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter, that is, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries."

He also stressed that the parties in Venezuela should find a political solution "through dialogue and negotiations."

Geng reiterated China's commitment to trade with Caracas, calling Venezuela "an important trade partner" and touting cooperation between the two countries, "based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit [and] common development."

Over the past decade, China has lent Caracas more than $50 billion (€44.3 billion) for oil shipments and infrastructure projects.
