Residents in Osorno, a city in south-central Chile, took to the streets on Monday to protest after a fuel spill left the community without drinking water.

On Thursday, some 11,000 litres of fuel spilled into the River Rahue, contaminating the city's water supply.

According to local media, some 200,000 people have been left without drinking water for up to four days, and authorities have threatened the water company Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios de Los Lagos SA with hefty fines.
