Riots and looting that began after the announcement of the increase in transport fares continued in the Chilean capital on Sunday, despite the announcement of the suspension of transport fare hikes by Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on Saturday.

People defied the curfew established by General Javier Iturriaga, with clashes resulting in at least three dead, according to reports. The military announced a new curfew from 19:00 on Sunday to 06:00 on Monday, local time (22:00 GMT to 09:00 GMT).

Footage shows citizens looting a supermarket with the military and police shooting and making arrests.

The demonstrations have evolved into a movement with wider grievances aimed at addressing the rising cost of living and police conduct during demonstrations. Pinera has announced a working group to address protesters' concerns.
