The European Union's (EU) chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier says the bloc must be prepared for the real risk of Brexit negotiations ending without a deal. Barnier called for rapid progress on the issue of the Irish border before an EU leaders' meeting in June. That meeting is to be a "stepping stone" towards attempting to reach a final deal in October. Northern Ireland (NI) will be the UK's only land frontier with the EU after the country leaves the bloc. All sides say they are committed to keeping the border with the Republic of Ireland (ROI) open, but finding a practical way to do so has proved elusive so far.
