According to a new study, thousands of women with early-stage breast cancer may be able to skip chemotherapy. The study was published June 3 in the New England Journal of Medicine. Researchers found that most patients with an intermediate risk of cancer recurrence can skip chemotherapy treatment. The study was funded by the National Cancer Institute, various foundations and proceeds from the breast cancer research stamp. It's the largest ever study done on breast cancer treatment. Results could affect up to 70,000 patients annually in the United States and many more around the world.
