A Catalan separatist party has struck a deal with Spain's socialist party. This paves the way for Pedro Sanchez to secure another term as leader. The ERC Party, the Republican Left of Catalonia, is pro-independence. It announced it will abstain from this week's parliamentary vote confirming Sanchez as prime minister. In exchange, the administration has promised to open a dialogue on the region's future. It's hoped the move will break a months-long political deadlock in Spain. An inconclusive election has left no party with a working majority.
