Formula 1 officials say 'miscommunication' was to blame for an error in the Canadian Grand Prix.

According to AutoSport.com, the chequered flag was shown one lap early.

Race director Charlie Whiting says the starter thought race leader Sebastian Vettel was on his 70th and final lap.

He mistakenly asked model Winnie Harlow to wave the flag when Vettel was actually ending his 69th lap.

Drivers kept racing the extra lap, despite some track marshals waving flags in the end of race salute.
