According to a report by Reuters, in just a few weeks time, the home-spun 'yellow-vest' protest campaign against high cost of living has exploded into a movement powerful enough to force President Emmanuel Macron to rescind a planned fuel tax increase. However, the movement, named for the fluorescent jackets worn by French motorists, remains a hard-to-define group without a leader. Reuters points out that anyone can be a part of the movement, which has allowed it to bring together people of hugely different ages, social classes, occupations, and views. The “yellow vests” are now reportedly trying to agree on other issues to fight for, including boosting household incomes to reinstating a wealth tax, or even ousting Macron from office.
