Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro sat down for bilateral talks in Brasilia on the sidelines of the 11th BRICS summit on Thursday.

"We see Brazil as an important strategic partner,” the Russian leader said, noting that Brazil accounts more than 30 percent of Russia’s trade to Latin America.

During the two-day BRICS summit, which runs under the theme 'BRICS: Economic Growth for an Innovative Future', the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are to discuss the current state and prospects of cooperation within the organisation, including issues related to economic, financial and cultural cooperation.
