Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, recently released from prison, addressed his supporters at 'Free Lula' rally in Recife on Sunday.

People were seen flooding the city during the day, marching with Lula's effigy, wearing masks with his face and chanting slogans.

"I said to the Brazilian people, I'm not Lula, I'm an idea that people assumed," stressed Brazil's former leader.

Lula was convicted and sentenced to 12 years on charges of corruption and money laundering in January 2018 and was ordered to start serving his sentence before all his appeals were exhausted, by Brazil's Supreme Court in April 2018. The ex-president was released on Friday and greeted by thousands of supporters.
