Brazil deployed around 44,000 soldiers to fight the rampant fired in the Amazon rainforest. Officials said they also dispatched two C-130 firefighting planes. Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research data documented over 70,000 fires in 2019. According to Gizmodo, that is an 80 percent plus increase over the same time period last year. Data seems to indicate a correlation between this increase and President Jair Bolsonaro’s policies.
