Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more collaboration between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in order to keep pace with the times, on the last day of the 11th BRICS summit in Brasilia on Thursday.

"The current world is still not peaceful. The security situation of the region is continuously tense and the hot issues never stop. Traditional and untraditional safety issues intertwine," Xi said, adding that BRICS countries "should advocate and practice multilateralism with the goal of maintaining the world peace and mutual development, the purpose of maintaining fairness and justice, the foundation of international law and acknowledged basic norms in international relation."

During the two-day event, which runs under the theme 'BRICS: Economic Growth for an Innovative Future', the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are to discuss the current state and prospects of cooperation within the organisation, including issues related to economic, financial and cultural cooperation.
