NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame, at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Monday, to discuss the security situation in Libya.

Stoltenberg reportedly called on all parties in Libya to end the fighting in the country, noting the importance of a political process to the settlement of the conflict.

According to a NATO statement, Stoltenberg said that NATO would be ready to help Libya build effective security institutions and services "at the request of the Libyan government and only when the security conditions allow it."
