German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Brussels on Thursday, to attend the EU Commission summit where nominations for the new EU leadership posts will be debated.
"Today we're having the first regular EU Council meeting after the European elections. We have two key points today. Firstly, our talks on our strategic agenda. I'm looking forward to reaching a high level of unity on that subject and I hope we realise our ambitions in the field of climate change," stressed Merkel.
New Austrian Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein was also present, and was greeted by President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
