UK Prime Minister Theresa May was nowhere in sight as EU heads of states celebrated the 25th anniversary of European Economic Area (EEA) in Brussels on Friday.

"Today we mark the 25th anniversary of European Economic Area which has opened up new opportunities and means of cooperation for its now 31 members," said President of the European Council Donald Tusk referring to the UK's exit from the economic zone.

May has reportedly flown back to the UK after securing an Article 50 extension with the EU until May 22, should the deal be agreed to in the House of Commons, and April 12 if the deal is rejected.
