High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles said the EU rejects Turkey's plan to deploy troops in Libya. He made the comments during a press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday.
"We ask for a ceasefire and we ask also to stop escalation and to [stop] external interference, which has been increasing in the last days. It is an obvious reference to the Turkish decision to intervene with their troops in Libya, which is something that we reject," he said.
"We are asking for a diplomatic solution on the understanding that there is not a military solution in Libya," he added.
Borrell's comments follow his meeting on Libya with the foreign ministers of Italy, France, Germany and the UK.
