This week, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted King Khalifa of Bahrain at the Elysée Palace in Paris. On the agenda were the conflicts in Yemen and Syria. But rights groups have been calling on Macron to draw attention to the Persian Gulf nation's dismal human rights record. For more, we spoke to Jawad Fairooz, a former Bahraini MP and the chairman of Salam for Democracy and Human Rights. The organisation says sexual abuse and torture have become widespread in Bahrain's prisons.
