Australian Cardinal George Pell has been freed from prison after the High Court of Australia unanimously overturned his child sexual abuse conviction, in Brisbane, on Tuesday.
Footage shows the court house where the verdict was reached.
The 78-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison in March 2019 after being found guilty of five charges of abusing a 13-year-old choirboy and his friend after a Sunday mass at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne in 1996.
Pell spent 405 days in Victoria's Barwon Prison before being released today.
The Vatican released a statement welcoming the overturning of Pell's conviction while reaffirming "its commitment to preventing and pursuing all cases of abuse against minors."
Pell used to be Australia's most senior figure in the Catholic Church and the third-ranking official in the Vatican, where he was in charge of finances.
