Hand puppetry or budaixi is a traditional art form whereby puppeteers move small glove dolls on wooden stages to tell historical and martial arts tales accompanied by live folk music. Once hugely popular in Taiwan, it had become a dying art in recent years. But as Barnaby Lo discovered, some groups and individuals on the island are not just trying to revive and promote, but also to breathe new life into the old tradition.
