For centuries cartographers have been designing maps that are inaccurate. Many depict the scale of countries incorrectly, while other maps have created for political propaganda. Some chartmakers have left countries off the map entirely.
This information may come as a surprise, but it shouldn't. In fact all maps are manipulative in some form. These inaccuracies have fed debates on whether some maps are colonialist and imperialist, while other just annoy geography nerds.
