Last year, Apple announced a change in its policy that recategorized tips made within an app as in-app purchases. This caused Tencent’s WeChat messaging app to disable tipping because of the fact that Apple takes a cut of in-app purchases. Now, it seems as though Apple and Tencent have come to an agreement. Tipping in WeChat will reportedly be re-enabled.
The deal was first reported in the Wall Street Journal. As part of it, Tencent will revamp the tipping system in WeChat to send tips directly to individuals. WeChat is the most popular messaging app in China.
