According to a report by Business Insider, despite bipartisan agreement from both Democratic and Republican leadership that Congress should get a raise, some lawmakers are trying to stop the pay hike from going to a vote. Rep. Katie Hill, a California Democrat, reportedly said at a Monday caucus meeting, "Nobody wants to vote to give themselves a raise. There's nothing good about that." However, on Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to argue for a congressional salary hike. The New York progressive, who campaigned on raising the minimum wage, claiming that denying lawmakers a raise incentivizes "self-dealing" and keeping "dark money loopholes open."
