Alaskan Pete Kaiser Wins His First Iditarod

Reuters reports that 31-year-old Pete Kaiser has won the 2019 Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The 1,000-mile race ended in a close finish on the snow-covered streets of Nome on Wednesday, with Kaiser and his dogs barely edging out defending champ Joar Leifseth Ulsom of Norway. Kaiser reached the finish line a mere 12 minutes ahead of second-placed Leifseth Ulsom in one of the closest finishes in Iditarod history. It was Kaiser’s first Iditarod win.
