A memorial ceremony was held for the late Japanese physician Tetsu Nakamura in Kabul, on Saturday. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani carried the doctor's coffin towards an awaiting plane on his shoulders, alongside a unit of soldiers.
Nakamura's wife, Nakao, was also present at the ceremony.
Tetsu Nakamura's body will be transported to Japan.
The Japanese doctor was killed in a roadside shooting in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday. The police are still looking for the perpetrators.
Nicknamed 'Uncle Murad' by villagers, Nakamura led various water and agricultural management projects in Afghanistan. He was awarded honourary Afghan citizenship by Ghani earlier this year.
