An eight-year-old girl is taking Chinese social media by storm with her boxing prowess. Zheng Yaqi, can be seen training hard in the backgarden of her home in Bijie, in southwest China's Guizhou province, in footage from Monday.
The girl, nicknamed Xiao Tangyuan - meaning sweet little dumpling - by her family, reportedly spars regularly with her ten-year-old brother Yuchen, with the duo also training by aiming blows at a punching bag and even the walls of their house.
The children's father, Zheng Weixin, started training his daughter a year ago after finding out his son had experienced violence at school.
"The girls are the vulnerable group in the society and the boys have to practice boxing it as well. It can avoid school violence, and it's good for body building," said Zheng.
In June 2018, Yaqi was invited to participate in a children's boxing championship and, contrary to all expectations, won the match. "We didn't have confidence, the opponent was a professional. Our attitude was about participating instead of winning," said Zheng.
Zheng added he plans to send his daughter to a primary school where she can keep practising the sport. "I hope she can insist on doing boxing," he concluded.
