European Commission reps call for defusing situation in Macedonia

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy  Federica Mogherini will travel to Skopje on Thursday evening for talks with Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov and other political stakeholders on the ongoing political crisis after Ivanov said he could not give a mandate to form a government to Social Democratic Union (SDSM) leader Zoran Zaev, who has won a majority in parliament by receiving support from ethnic Albanian parties.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and her Macedonian counterpart Gjorge Ivanov spoke on the phone on Thursday about an incident that had occurred on the Macedonian-Greek border on Monday, when several hundred migrants attempted to cross the border into Macedonia and three drowned in a river, the Croatian President's Office said in a statement.
