US official: Kerry never threatened Turkey's NATO membership

A US official tells dpa that Secretary of State John Kerry never threatened Turkey's membership in NATO, referring to a report on the website of the Washington Post.

"We've seen the Washington Post story and nothing in the content of the story would appear to justify the headline," a US diplomat says.

The Post report is headlined: "Kerry says NATO will scrutinize Turkey's commitment to democracy."
