US: Ceasefire in two Syrian locales to start at midnight Saturday

A ceasefire will go into effect at midnight Saturday at two locations in Syria, a senior US State Department official, speaking on background, confirms.

The so-called regime of silence - "a stoppage of fighting" - is set for Latakia and the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta.

The official says the US is urgently "talking to Russia about Aleppo" and "working hard" to reaffirm the cessation of hostilities in that city.
