A new task force by major powers will hold its first meeting later on Friday in Geneva, with the aim of getting aid to besieged Syrians, a UN spokesman says.
The meeting comes the day after the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) of global and Middle Eastern powers agreed on stopping the fighting in Syria in one week's time, as well as on two task forces on aid delivery and the cessation of hostilities.
UN spokesman Ahmad Fawzi says Friday's meeting "is a good testing time to test the will" of the support group and suggests it could play a role in getting the Syrian opposition to restart peace talks with the government this month.
