Three killed in selfie accidents at Indian tourist spots

A college girl who fell into the swirling sea while clicking a selfie in Mumbai and a man who jumped into the water to save her drowned, police said Sunday.

Tarranum Ansari, 18, and her two friends were clicking selfies on their mobile phones at the rocky beach at Bandra Bandstand on Saturday when a tide swept them away.

Hearing their cries for help, a 38-year old local, Ramesh Walunje, who jumped into the sea, managed to save two girls and later tried to save Tarranum.

"But both went missing in the waters and have drowned," area police chief Anandrao Gadge said by phone. "Search operations have continued for over a day now, but turned out futile."

In another incident, a youth who was trying to take a selfie fell to his death from the ramparts of a fort in the northern city of Jammu on Friday.
